Body lotion 'should not be applied after use-by date'

Body lotion designed to protect skin from the sun's harmful rays should not be applied after its use-by date, an expert has insisted. According to beauty specialist Elsa Mcalonan, products such as lotions, creams and gels have a shelf life of about two or three years if they have never been opened. However, she stated that if an item has been opened for more than three months, it should be disposed of and replaced. "Bacteria can damage the cream's filters," she told the Daily Mail. "You can usually spot this when the cream begins to separate." Ms Mcalonan added that sun protection products should be kept in the fridge when they are not being used. She stated that this would help it to last longer and feel more invigorating on the skin.

Credit crunch not likely to affect the birth rate

As the credit crunch bites, we’re all looking for ways to save money, but it seems delaying having children isn’t one of them. According to a survey sent to over 2,000 Naturebotts customers (www.naturebotts.co.uk), over 71% said the credit crunch would not delay their plans for future pregnancies. Of the respondents, over 65% already had a child, so despite the doom and gloom of recent months, it doesn’t seem our birth rate is likely to take a dip. However, 66% did say the credit crunch was affecting their spending habits with 63% saying they always compared prices online before buying, and 60% deciding to spend less on themselves (but the same on their children). They also gave lots of good suggestions to Naturebotts’ request for tips on surviving the credit crunch including sharing baths 70s style, saving food leftovers to create other meals and walking instead of using the car.

Poll reveals more mums environmentally aware this Organic Fortnight

Oxo-biodegradable Plastic

Recycled plastic is OK, but it can exist in the environment for many years. Now, plastic can be made oxo-biodegradable. This is done by including Symphony’s d2w additive at the factory, which makes it degrade, then biodegrade, on land or at sea, in the light or the dark, in heat or cold, in whatever timescale is required, leaving NO fragments NO methane and NO harmful residues. Oxo-bio meets American Standard 6954, and there is little or no additional cost. Oxo-bio plastic is made from a by-product of petroleum, but this is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Some people would like to stop using petroleum to fuel cars and planes, but until that day arrives it makes sense to use the by-product, which used to be wasted, instead of using scarce land and water resources to grow crops to make bioplastics, which emit methane in landfill.
